Jewelry FAQ

How do I care for my jewelry?

Store your necklaces flat, as hanging them stresses the stringing materials.  Wipe them with a slightly damp cloth after wearing.  Necklaces should not be stored kinked; however you may loosely coil them.

Our jewelry is made with all natural gemstones.  Please use hairspray, perfumes, bug spray, etc. before putting on your jewelry.  The chemicals in these can cause damage to the stones or pearls.

Please make sure your stones are protected before using any cleaning substance on the jewelry.

Sterling Silver Care

Sterling silver tarnishes.  That’s just a fact.  Use a silver polish and soft cloth, taking care not to get it on the stones.  Rinse well and dry completely.  The piece may also be gently buffed with a polish cloth.  Sterling jewelry should be stored carefully in a jewelry box with anti-tarnish strips or a re-sealable bag.

Care & Feeding of Pearls

Pearls should be wiped carefully with a soft cloth and not stored with other jewelry.  Over time, perspiration and chemicals can eat away at the nacre.  They should never be cleaned with a brush or harsh abrasives.   Even baking soda, vinegar and toothpaste can damage the pearls.

What about copper?

The cool thing about copper is that it oxidizes.  Sometimes this is desirable, as it could turn a very pretty color.  If this is not your thing, here are some tips to keep your copper clean.  Please take care if it is set with a stone or pearl.

Copper should be wiped off with a polishing cloth before storing it. You should store your copper piece in a jewelry box or re-sealable plastic bag.  Make sure the piece is completely dry before storing.

Periodically you may find it needs a little more.  Cut a lime or lemon in half and sprinkle the cut side with salt.  Rub this on the copper, then rinse and dry well.    Lemon juice and baking soda can be combined to make a paste.  Rub it in and rinse it off.

Commercial cleaners may be used, but again, watch those stones!

Copper may turn some wearer’s skin green.  This is due to the copper oxidizing when in contact with the sweat glands.  It is a good idea to remove copper jewelry before working out.  The green can be washed off with plain soap and water.

What if I WANT two of the same earrings?

I get it..not everyone wants to be ‘someone else’s weirdo’.  That’s ok.  Email me which one you would like duplicated and I will make it for you, provided the materials are still available.  This is what we call a ‘special order’ and cannot be returned.

On that note, let’s talk special orders!

Pretty much anything that falls within my abilities is possible.  I will ask lots of questions, send photos of prototypes and get approval on the final piece prior to shipping.  Please be aware that at the point of approval, the order cannot be changed or returned.  Make sure you love it and it is exactly what you want prior to shipping.  We do want you to love your piece made especially for you!

Bottom Line

Take care of your jewelry and you will have a piece to treasure for a long time.

We know sometimes, stuff happens.  If a piece breaks, we will repair it one time for free.  Please gather up as much of it as you can find and send it back.  You will be responsible for the shipping.  Shoot us an email and let us know it is on its way!  Subsequent repairs will be available for a small charge, which will be determined by the piece in question.

We want you to be happy!  If you have any questions, email me christine@ofcoinscrystals.com
