Blue Fluorite 4 - Bingham, New Mexico

A small surprisingly BLUE cluster of fluorite crystals on a bed of quartz crystals. The fluorite is mostly dark - just about navy - blue.   This is such an amazing color!  

Fluorite is found as a common gangue mineral in hydrothermal veins, especially those containing lead and zinc minerals, it comes in a variety of colors,  which depends on impurities, exposure to radiation, and the size of the color centers.

Mined in New Mexico - the seller is one of the miners.  I can only imagine how spectacular it felt to open this vein.

The blue is difficult to capture with the camera.  This is unfortunate because it is unlike any we've ever seen.  

Measures around 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" and weighs 3.49 oz.
